Louis Cruises will offer rarest of the rare opportunities, watching the longest solar eclipse of the 3rd millennium falling on 15th January 2010 onboard it’s Aquamarine cruise ship.

Its cruise is advertised as “unbeatable offer… Watch The Solar Eclipse On Board MV Aquamarine… a spectacle of a lifetime, not to be missed.” The cruise will be sailing between Kochi (India) and the Maldives and will be docked in the Maldives on 15 Janury 2010 as the Maldives will see the full eclipse. A cruise is an ideal platform to view the eclipse from its deck. For those who do not wish to venture out on to the deck to witness this event, presentations, movies and simulations regarding the eclipse will also be playing on board during this time, according to Luis Cruise.

Guests on board Aquamarine will be in Maldives where the Annularity (a.k.a. ring of fire) will be visible for 10min 46sec. The eclipse will start at 10:15:20 (Maldives local time) peaking at 12:25:43(Maldives local time) and ending at 13:23:14 (Maldives local time).  The cruise will leave Kochi on 13th January and return on 16th January 2010.

Science Popularisation Association of Communicators and Educators (SPACE) will make available safety equipment like special filters for cameras and for individual viewing. Four astronomers from SPACE will be on board to conduct workshops on the solar eclipse in a designated area on the deck of MV Aquamarine. Telescopes and Binoculars will be provided for guests to view deep sky objects, different galaxies, nebulae and star clusters, according to Lois Cruise.

The rates for this rare experience is on board the cruise is between Rs.17,000 to Rs.50,000 for the four-day three-night trip.
